The Original Oxalate Breakthrough - Chelated Calcium Secret now Revealed
Now you know that Bone Formula Forte isn't a chelated calcium supplement -
find out more about the product that may have inspired this cheap impersonation.
In 2016 Jenquine's Bone Formula was relaunched as Bone Formula Forte. There were three main changes highlighted:
- Removal of magnesium
- Removal of phosphorus
- Increased marketing emphasis on chelated calcium content
All three of these changes made this new formulation look much like EquiFeast's BREAK FREE - a product that was making waves in the oxalate areas of Australia following field trials in 2012 and excellent customer feedback since its launch.
While the removal of Mg and P was real, we now know the emphasis on chelated calcium was not justified by the miniscule quantity Jenquine's product actually contains (click here). Sadly many vets were misled into thinking that they were using this innovative new technology when in fact they were simply getting limestone and lime and not much else.
True chelated calcium supplements are highly stable, natural components of the blood and body fluids that work in a completely different way to products that dissociate into ions when dissolved. We believe that chelated calcium helps with the regulation of calcium in the body and is involved in the process known as Calcium Signalling that is going on in almost every cell in the body.
This helps to explain why, despite maintaining normal blood ionised calcium levels (iCa), the sacrifice made by demineralising bones doesn't seem to help soft tissues like tendons, ligaments and muscles to function normally. The common symptoms of oxalate toxicity are frequently stubborn despite the tonnes of calcium pumped into horses in these areas of the country. Understanding our alternative theory may help vets to get better value from chelated calcium technology and help create more happy owners, riders and horses.
Far more important than any theory is to actually try chelated calcium and see what it actually does in the real world. If you haven't experienced horses on BREAK FREE, Cool, Calm & Collected, RaceMAX or WINNINGEDGE you haven't used a real chelated calcium supplement.
